Nkandla Scam
After two years of investigation our public protector Ms Thuli Madonsela gave the country a 450 pages long report 'Secure in Comfort' on our president Mr Jacob Zuma's homestead security upgrades in KwaZulu Natal.
Mr Zuma's costs for the security upgrade was supposed to be R27million initially which later expanded to R246 million after the Department of Public works appointed Minenhle Makhanya as the president's private architect, who apparently went for expensive options instead of the more affordable ones. Mail and Guardian brought it to their attention in 2009 that the cost of the homestead security upgrade was exceeding the budget but the spending increased after that to the amount which it currently is. Mr President had initially told the country that his family paid for all the houses they have which was later proven otherwise but the Public Protector's report. The president was requested to pay back the money used for the non-security upgrades which included a visitor's center, amphitheartre, swimming pool, cattle kraal, culvert and extensive
Pavement.

Mr Zuma's response to the report was that the police minister Nathi Nhleko needs to determine if he should pay back the R246millio spent on his homestead and that was it, he then later blamed his architect Minenhle Makhanya for the overcosts

The president's poor neighbors in Nkandla
It’s only fair that the President pays back the money because it was proven in the report that he went over his budget by more than a hundred million. He and together with his ministry should have acted on the matter when it was brought to their attention but they just turned a blind eye on it. It’s a very disgusting scum because the architect was also paid more than he was supposed to. This issue could’ve been resolved from the word go only if our president could’ve accepted to the matter and promised to back every cent.
It just proves how corrupt our government is and just how the president has an upper hand above all of us, I mean, no legal steps had been taken against him and above all, he shows no remorse. And because saga our house of parliament is turning into a circus all because of one man who we supposed to be looking up on. That’s a lot of money that could’ve been put to good use, it could’ve bought textbooks for learners in Limpopo, could’ve built a university for learners who have passed matric and has no space in tertiary institutions, could’ve fed the hungry people in Giyani and people wouldn’t have to pay for e-tolls. The old man should just pay back our millions.

    1. beside having a new president, beside hating zuma...how can upgrades be made in your house and do not know about them? look Mr Zwane, if Zuma did not know about the upgrades then he should have spoke out to the public which are his people.

    1. My point exactly Mbalee, this is our tax money and i don't get why his security upgrades were included in our budget as a country...Mr president deserves to be treated like all other men and not our leader because he doesn't act like one
